Dumping a bag of ice over the bottled water, Cali wiped her wet hands over her sweaty face. While Jarek had been hoping for a nice day to put up the garage, she didn’t think that he’d meant quite this nice. It was a scorcher. She was surprised at the number of guys that had shown up to help in this type of heat. Obviously, her man was well liked. She smiled at the title. She had been a little taken aback the first guy that asked her where her old man was, but she had to admit, she liked it. No one had seemed surprised to see her there. She wondered what he said about her at work.

Her gaze unerringly found Jarek among the bodies swarming the new garage. Broad shoulders filled out a simple white t-shirt and she loved the way the ratty Levi’s hugged his ass and thighs as he clambered up the ladder. What was it about a man with a tool belt? The past couple of weeks had been a dance. One step forward, two steps back. He didn’t want to push. She was still worried about ruining what they had. But there was no denying the attraction between them. Laying with her head on the side of his chest on the couch had become their thing. He liked to play with her hair. She’d made a point of buying the shampoo he liked instead of going with whatever was cheapest. That had seemed to start a trend. Jarek had bought her white chocolate covered pretzels. She’d washed all the blankets and bedding on her day off. He’d picked up a movie on the way home because she’d mentioned wanting to see it. She’d added butterscotch chips and walnuts to the oatmeal cookie mix because that was the way Mrs. Murphy made them. He’d washed and detailed the Jeep for her. It was almost sickening.

Lifting her hair off the back of her neck, Cali leaned against the sink with a sigh. Was it worth it? If they didn’t work out she would lose everything. Where else was she
